'Sweet game'
Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, described the defendant's actions to the court.
She said his those affected were under-privileged children who were attending a summer program which he managed.
The man conducted a "treat game" with the children, the legal counsel stated, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to ingest treats "rapidly".
She informed the proceedings the man had played this game with the young males "repeatedly", and children had previously fallen ill the next day.
She stated the defendant had been able to explain this for many years as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had suspicions in recently.
Mrs Prior KC added: "In the summer" his family member had suspicions about the activities, justifiably.
"They resolved" to investigate in the man's possessions."
Mrs Prior KC said materials including baby oil, petroleum jelly and injection devices were found, and his stepchild alerted the police about his concerns.
She stated the man went on to conduct the "treat game" with six youngsters that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were everyone unwell the following morning.
"Authorities" had not arrived by that point," she continued.
The oversight body, the police conduct office, had stated that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.
The prosecutor stated the children were struggling to walk due to their condition, so the stepson notified the law enforcement a second time.
She stated the man then played the "sweet game" in a room of five children.
